Dogs are not usually picky eaters. More often than not dogs become barbaric when food is present. Whether the barbarism is on the surface, and the dog is doing whatever it needs to do to eat the food; or whether the barbarism is suppressed to a begging whine. My dog Tucker is a 9 year old smooth coat collie. For the longest time when Tuck was a pup, he would just stair at the food we put in his bowl. This confused my family and I because we exercised the hound daily and thus he should be hungry.
The real mystery arose when he would eat dinner but not breakfast. For humans, it is believed that breakfast is the most important meal of the day. Why would it be any different for a growing puppy? At first, we were using Iambs puppy formula dry kibble dog food. Maybe it was the taste; I know it smelled pretty bad. We started to add Pedigree brand wet canned food to Tucker's diet. That stuff was noxious. It stunk up the whole house for hours. Still, Tucker seemed like he would force down his meals. This was painful to witness, because I love my dog. He is a dog though; he should enjoy most if not any food presented to him.
Years passed as my family and I continued to feed Tucker the Iambs kibble-Pedigree can food cocktail. Sometimes his meals would go half empty and be finished halfway through the day. This did not concern us because he was growing so healthily and strong. His biannual veterinarian check up always produced positive results. One day, I received a free Eukanuba dog food sample. This dry kibble looked similar to the Iambs, but I let Tucker give it go anyways. He enjoyed it thoroughly. From then on, my family only purchased Eukanuba for Tuck. We did not have to add any nasty canned food; He probably hated that the most. Case Closed.
