The Mysterious Sound

Lauren Wink

On a warm summer day, the Wink family was working around the house, and getting ready for dinner. While standing in the kitchen, they all heard a noise that appeared to be a radio. Alan went to check both of the radios located on the bottom level of the house to see if they were powered on. When he reported to the rest of the family that neither of the radios were on, he told his children, Jason and Lauren, to check their stereos in their room. Jason and Lauren went upstairs to find that the sound got softer; in addition, their radios were not on. While standing in the kitchen, the sound was still heard from all of the members of the family, yet the family was still unaware of where the noise was coming from. The family went outside assuming the sound would get louder. However, the sound got softer and the Wink family concluded the noise was coming from something in the house.

Maybe the noise was not a radio. The sound could be a dial tone from a phone off the hook. Checking all of the phones in the house, all of the phones appeared to be on the hook. The sound continued to be heard softly. None of the televisions in the house were on. Donna went outside to check again if the sound could be from outside. Donna did not hear this unknown noise while standing outside. This verified that the sound was definitely from something located in the house.

Donna, Alan, Jason and Lauren still wandered about the house trying to find where the noise was coming from. They rechecked all of the radios and televisions in the house as well, finding them all powered off. While rechecking the televisions and confirming the televisions were all off, Alan thought maybe the speakers on one of the computers were on. After checking the speakers to find neither of them on, the family remained curious. The family continued walking around the house saying, "What is that noise?! Where is it coming from?!"

Donna walked downstairs to the basement to fold the clothes. After walking down the steps, she realized that the sound got louder! She called Alan down into the basement, and he agreed that the volume of the unknown sound increased. There was no radio located in the basement, and the television was powered off. Alan continued saying, "Where is it coming from?!" Donna and Alan opened the door to the crawl space and the noise got louder. They took out a bag full of toys to hear the noise even louder! Lauren came downstairs to see if her parents had found where the noise was coming from. Opening the garbage bag of toys, they heard, "Hello friends." The unknown sound was coming from a talking Barney stuffed animal that had been put in a garbage bag in the crawl space over ten years ago! Who knew that a stuffed animal which was supposed to talk when someone pressed its hand, would talk when no one touched it!
