GRADE LEVEL ADVISOR PROGRAMS

Fifth Grade Program
Like the title of the book, the fifth grade theme will be: "Listening for Differences."
This will include listening to the differences between Lower and Middle School, differences in the things we like to do (or don’t like to do), listening to others for better understanding of them and ourselves, listening to differences in experiences, listening to differences in expectations, goals, etc.

Our goal is to lead the fifth grade to embrace differences in themselves, people and ideas.

Sixth Grade Program
Advisory in the Sixth Grade is designed to help sixth graders become more active members of the middle school.  They will learn several skills that will help them navigate the middle school (and beyond) such as organization, learning about learning, working with others, and planning ahead.  The program aims to get students to look at the individual as part of the whole.  In a word, the theme for the year is "Me."

Seventh Grade Program
The Seventh Grade advisory program is geared towards helping students gain a better sense of self-responsibility and self-awareness in the Middle School.  With all of the changes that occur for 7th graders mentally and physically, we strive to advise the students on how they can best handle the management of their time and try to foster an understanding of their social environment.  Our particular aims are to build on the organizational skills they are exposed to as 6th graders and to prepare them for the leadership roles they are expected to take on as 8th graders.  Our hope is that by the end of the 7th grade year we have armed our students with the values necessary to understand the consequences of their actions and the ability to be responsible for their choices.

Eighth Grade Program
Our goal in 8th grade advisory is to give students the opportunities to develop the skills needed to listen to others, respectfully consider all opinions and options, but in the end to think and decide for themselves. We use Value Clarification questions to stimulate the students' thoughts and ideas about (what may be considered by some) controversial topics or situations, which in turn promotes persuasive arguments, self-reflection, defense of one's opinions, and the character to defend ones views respectfully. In addition, the 8th graders are expected to be leaders and role models for the younger students in the Middle School. Their actions and behaviors are expected to reflect this responsibility.
