NJSIAA:  The New Jersey State Interscholastic Athletic Association, founded in 1918, is a voluntary, non-profit organization made up of 433 accredited public, private and non-public high schools in the state.  The Association, through the Executive Committee, sets forth the rules and regulations governing high school athletics in order to equalize competition for member schools. The NJSIAA conducts tournaments, and crowns champions in thirty-one sports.  Rutgers Preparatory School’s NJSIAA classification is Non-Public B South.

NJISAA:  The New Jersey Independent School Athletic Association consists of 32 Independent Schools throughout New Jersey.  The purpose of the NJISAA is to conduct Prep State tournaments in 26 sports split into Prep A and Prep B Divisions.  Rutgers Preparatory School’s NJISAA classification is Prep B Division.

Skyland Conference:  Both Independent and Public Schools participate in the Skyland Conference whose aim is to develop wholesome attitudes toward the school programs, teams, participants, officials, and coaches: to develop the qualities of loyalty, unselfishness, responsibility, cooperation, citizenship, leadership, and sportsmanship: to compete successfully in a sportsman manner: and to encourage the growth of morale, health, and self-discipline of all student athletes.
