Boys Basketball

The Rutgers Prep Basketball program joined the NJSIAA in 2012 and the Skyland in 2014, ensuring a highly competitive conference schedule to compliment a traditionally grueling non-conference schedule.

Coach Alex Mahony is in his second year as the head coach after succeeding NJ basketball coaching legend Tim Ortelli. Coach Mahony's philosophy emphasizes playing team basketball on both ends of the floor. Defensively, he preaches suffocating man to man team defense, while still using zone to keep teams honest. On offense the motto is pass up a GOOD shot for a GREAT one.

In our first season in the Skyland Conference, led by two full-scholarship winners Levi Holmes and Karl Charles, along with some very solid team-oriented players around them, Rutgers Prep won a share of the Skyland Conference Delaware Division title and finished 18th in the state overall, and 10th in the state among non-public teams. Over the last 5 seasons, we have made 3 appearances in the coveted Somerset County Tournament finals or semifinals. Our team goals will always be consistent - win the Skyland Conference and win the Somerset County title.
