Each year the New Jersey "Star Ledger" awards prestigious, academic scholarships to the most outstanding students in each of eleven counties served by the newspaper. In Somerset County each high school may name a candidate and one winner is chosen each year on the basis of academic achievement.

Awards are based strictly on academic merit. A selection committee of educators appointed by the U.S. Department of Education considers the difficulty of courses pursued, class rank, grade-point average, courses taken at colleges and summer programs and tests such as the Scholastic Aptitude Test, SAT II and College Board Advanced Placement Tests. The scholars, and the teachers they cited as those most inspired their academic success, are honored at the program's banquet.

Rutgers Prep is very proud of all our "Star Ledger" Scholars and pleased to announce that in five of the last twelve years the scholarship winner in Somerset County has been an RPS Student!
