Mission

Rutgers Preparatory School, founded in 1766, is a pre-kindergarten through twelfth grade co-educational independent day school. The School environment is enriched by students who come from a variety of geographic, economic and ethnic backgrounds. Our motto "Severa res est verum gaudium" (Hard work is true joy) expresses our desire that students will develop a positive attitude toward learning and that they will be rewarded with a strong sense of achievement.

The School values intellectual curiosity and personal integrity, seeking to stimulate their development at every level. We emphasize a strong academic program, creative problem solving, cooperation and group interaction, appreciation of culture and beauty, and healthy emotional and physical growth.

We believe that our students grow and learn best in an environment of trust, cooperation and open communication. The educational experience of each individual student is most successful when students, parents, faculty and administration together support the School's aims and values.

Our teachers are enthusiastic about their teaching, well prepared in their subject matter, and concerned for their students' welfare. This atmosphere encourages students to take the risks necessary for learning.

The School offers each student an integrated program of studies, extra-curricular activities, athletics, and community service. As a result our students develop individual talents, actively participate in the School community and look forward to success in college. They build a foundation for understanding the social, environmental, and cultural intricacies of their world. Ultimately, students learn to accept challenges and responsibly set and achieve goals for themselves.
