2nd Graders Immerse Themselves in All Things Sandy Hook on Field Trip

Despite the rainy weather, our second graders had an amazing time on their field trip last week to the New Jersey Sea Grant Consortium at Sandy Hook! They learned so much about Sandy Hook, like how it got its name and the fact that it's home to the oldest working lighthouse in the United States! Their learning became even more...immersive...when they put on waders and got right into the water on the Raritan Bay side of the peninsula. In groups of four and with nets in hand, the students collected all kinds of interesting sea life like sand shrimp, crabs, and silversides before releasing their new acquaintances back into the water. Later they explored the beach on the ocean side of Sandy Hook where they learned about different types of shells and then got to collect their very own! Some of the kids were even able to find some sea glass! This trip has always been a favorite of ours, and we're so glad to have finally gone back!
