Celebrating 50 Years with the Class of 1974
This year's Alumni Day weekend was a memorable gathering for alums from all class years; however, the Class of 1974 set out to make it extra special for their 50th Reunion.
In the fall of 2023, members of the class created a committee to start planning the weekend. The dedicated ‘74 committee—Walter Deutsch, Juan Nogueras, Jerry Salomone, Oscar Sistrunk, Saundra Schoicket-Lukacher, and Eric Stahl—began by finding and contacting classmates. The group met regularly via Zoom to ensure the weekend logistics were set, outreach was being done, and classmates were excited about the events. Their dedication and hard work made the Alumni Day weekend a truly special occasion for all who attended.
Since many alums were traveling in for the reunion, they wanted several celebrations to take place. The group kicked off the weekend with a welcome reception at a local hotel, joined on-campus festivities on Saturday, and concluded their weekend with a dinner on Saturday evening. Retired faculty members joined in on the celebrations to reunite with familiar faces, and everyone had a wonderful time.
In addition to the events, the committee is spearheading a fundraising effort for a 50th class gift with a goal of raising $25,000 to benefit Rutgers Prep students.
The committee's parting advice: “Start early!”. If you are interested in planning a class-specific reunion, please contact Genevieve Strycharz at strycharz@rutgersprep.org or call 732-545-5600 x213.
