A Letter from the Head of School

A Letter from the Head of School

Dear Rutgers Prep Community,

As another academic year comes to a close, once again I find myself reflecting with gratitude for the resilience, creativity, and spirit of our remarkable school community.

This spring, we came together to celebrate milestone moments for students across all divisions. From the joyful exuberance of Lower School Closing exercises to the thoughtful reflections shared at Middle School Closing, to the poignant and proud moments of our Upper School Commencement, each ceremony marked more than just an academic transition—each was a true celebration of character, growth, and accomplishment.

Throughout these pages, you’ll see glimpses of those events as well as the many other ways our students closed the year with energy and purpose. Concerts from our band, orchestra, and choir as well as our dance students reminded us of the power of artistic collaboration and expression. Our athletic fields and performance spaces were full of students giving their best, supported by peers, teachers, and families who cheered them on.

We were especially thrilled to welcome back so many former students during our recent Alumni Day, with graduates spanning five decades—ranging from the Class of 1955 to the Class of 2024—returning to campus. They proudly shared stories, laughter, and reflections and each conversation was a powerful reminder that while much changes over time, the heart of our school and the character of our community remains strong and deeply connected.

Our newest alumni are headed off to a wide array of colleges and universities—each pursuing their next chapter with a strong foundation shaped by curiosity, integrity, and a commitment to making an impact. These graduates, like so many current students, are distinguishing themselves in all areas of school life. Whether launching new service initiatives, competing at the highest levels in athletics, presenting original scientific research, or taking the stage in artistic performance, our students embody what it means to lead with purpose.

In a year that asked a lot of us at times, our students, faculty, and families responded with unity and determination. This magazine is a celebration of that spirit and of the people who make our school not just a place of learning, but a community of mutual support and inspiration.

With warm wishes for a joyful and restorative summer,

Steve Loy
Head of School
