RPS Today - Summer 2026

A Letter from the Head of School

Dear Rutgers Prep Community,

As another school year draws to a close, I find myself reflecting not only on the milestones each of us celebrated, but also on the countless moments that define who we are collectively as a community.

At Commencement, our graduates were encouraged to "light a fire" within themselves. This individual fire is fueled by personal purpose, courage, curiosity, and compassion. This personal fire is powerful. And the wonderful benefit is that this fire can be shared without ever diminishing its impact. When one torch lights another, the original flame loses nothing. Every classmate or teacher with whom we connected, every friend who encouraged us, and every family member who believed in us passed along something valuable while keeping their own fire intact.

When we use our gifts to encourage others, mentor a younger student, support a teammate, or lead by example, we do not diminish our own flame. Instead, we help ignite that same spark in someone else. Leadership is not about standing apart from others; it is about helping others discover their own strengths and potential. The graduates who crossed the stage this June leave Rutgers Prep with the opportunity not only to pursue their own aspirations, but also to inspire those around them to do the same.

Our Commencement speaker, Jurnee Caldwell ’26, offered a most insightful reminder that the most meaningful impact we have on one another often comes through small acts of kindness and connection. A word of encouragement. A helping hand. A teacher who takes extra time. A friend who reaches out...
