A Letter from the Head of School

A Letter from the Head of School

Dear Rutgers Prep Community,

As we reach the midpoint of the academic year, I find myself reflecting on how quickly these months have passed and how much has already been lived, learned, and celebrated since September. The days of a school year are alive and full in the moment and have the added benefit of creating lasting memories that shape our lives.

This first semester has been rich with those moments. From the energy of the opening days of school to the steady rhythm of learning that followed each week, our campus has been alive with curiosity, creativity, and purpose. In classrooms, studios, labs, and on fields and stages, students across all divisions have challenged themselves, supported one another, and grown in confidence and character.

We also marked significant milestones as a community. The groundbreaking of our new building represents not only an investment in bricks and mortar, but a powerful commitment to the future of teaching, learning, and connection at Rutgers Prep. Designed to foster collaboration, innovation, and gathering, this space will serve generations of students and stand as a daily reminder of what is possible when a community believes deeply in its mission.

Our academic and co-curricular programs continued to flourish. Students engage in advanced research, explore new avenues for social impact, and share their talents through performances, publications, and exhibitions. Celebrations of culture, music, and storytelling bring us together, while athletics and service remind us of the importance of teamwork, resilience, and compassion. Each experience contributes to the steady work of becoming one’s best self.

One of the joys from the Fall was welcoming young alumni back to campus during their college breaks. Our alumni remain deeply connected to this place, carrying forward the lessons and relationships formed here.  Seeing graduates reconnect with one another, with faculty, and with today’s students reinforced a truth we hold dear: while much changes over time, the values that define a Rutgers Prep education endure.

None of this would be possible without the dedication of our faculty and staff, the partnership of our families, and the generosity of our supporters. Your belief in our students ensures that each day is meaningful, and that our school remains a place where students are known, encouraged, respected, and empowered.

As we look ahead to the second half of the year, I am filled with gratitude for what has already been accomplished and optimism for what lies ahead. The days will continue to be full, and the years will continue to move quickly, and together we will make each moment count.

With warm regards,

Steve Loy
Head of School
