How to Apply

Rutgers Prep operates on a rolling admission basis. Candidates should file applications early in the year in order to be given full consideration for the upcoming academic year. For candidates who have completed the admission process, admission decisions will be sent as early as mid-February.

Application Form & Fee
The RPS Application Form should be submitted along with a non-refundable application fee of $75. (Please note: we accept the SSAT Common Application.)

International Applicants
International students may apply online using the RPS Application Form or the SSAT Common Application.

Interview and Campus Visit
Please schedule an appointment with the Admission Office for an interview and campus visit. (732) 545-5600 ext. 261, or After the visit, candidates for second grade and above will schedule a full day visit at Rutgers Prep. With the exception of students applying to grade 9, who will be hosted by a freshman, the prospective student will be hosted by a Rutgers Prep student in his or her current grade level.

Testing/Classroom Observations:

Pre-Kindergarten 3 (3 by September 1st) or Junior-Kindergarten (4 by September 1st)
An applicant spends 2 hours (8-10AM) in the Pre-Kindergarten classroom during which time they are informally assessed. Snack is provided.

Kindergarten (5 by September 1st)
An applicant spends a full morning (8-noon) with the Junior Kindergarten class during which time they are informally assessed. Snack is included.

1st Grade
A First Grade applicant spends an entire day with Kindergarten (8-2:45PM). Visitors bring a snack and lunch.

2nd through 5th Grade
An applicant spends a day (8-3PM) with the grade that corresponds to their current grade. Visitors bring a snack to have mid morning and are our guest for lunch.

Applicants to Grades 3 through 5 take the IOWA Test of Basic Skills, administered at Rutgers Prep, typically on a Saturday morning. If the applicant has taken IOWA testing within the current year, these scores may be submitted to determine if further testing is necessary.

6th through 12th Grade
The Secondary School Admission Test (SSAT) is requested. We will accept the ISEE (Grades 6-12) and the PSAT (Grades 10 and up). Rutgers Prep administers the SSAT test seven times during the school year. The SSAT testing fee is paid directly to SSAT. Teacher Recommendations
For PK through Grade 4, one recommendation from the primary teacher is required. For Grades 5-12, we require recommendations from at least two teachers; one from a math teacher; the other from an English or history teacher. Teacher recommendation forms are enclosed with the application packet or can be found in the links below.

Transcript Request Form (enclosed with application packet)
A signed Transcript Request Form needs to be sent to your child's current school so that a complete transcript including grades and test scores may be released and sent directly to our Admission Office.

Enrollment Procedure
Once a student has been offered admission to Rutgers Prep, parents will be sent a formal acceptance letter, along with online enrollment materials including contract, registration, and payment instructions. Families will be expected to respond to an offer of admission within 30 days. Parents of students accepted after March 30 will be asked to respond within two weeks.
