Rutgers Preparatory School Athletics Philosophy
Interscholastic sports at Rutgers Prep School are one of the most visible parts of our school and such a fantastic source of pride for our students and our community.
The sound development of the physical capacities of our students complements and enhances the intellectual, emotional, and social development of each student. To strengthen these learning opportunities, we strive to present an array of sporting activities that offer a variety of levels of competition.
At the Middle School and Junior Varsity levels, skill development, participation and sportsmanship are our primary concerns. At the Varsity level skill development, participation, sportsmanship and competitive play are emphasized with winning as the objective.
Rutgers Preparatory School’s athletic program fields a total of 44 high school (grades 9-12) and middle school teams (grades 6-8), including 15 Varsity athletic teams. Boys’ teams include: Soccer, Basketball, Baseball, Tennis, Lacrosse, Wrestling, and Cross Country. Girls' teams consist of: Soccer, Basketball, Softball, Volleyball, Cross-Country, Tennis and Lacrosse. Additionally, the school has two co-ed teams Golf and Swimming. As a recent member of the NJSIAA Non-Public B State Organization competing within the Skyland Conference, since 2013 Rutgers Preparatory School has won 2 NJSIAA State Championships, 1 NJSIAA Sectional Championship, and 2 Skyland Conference Championships. Rutgers Prep also continues to participate in the NJISAA Prep B where we have won over 70 State Championships, plus 8 Somerset County Championships.
We encourage our student-athletes to explore opportunities that are available to them.
Rutgers Preparatory School has a no-cut policy, which means that all RPS students who elect to participate in sports will be a member of an athletic team.
