Dougherty’s Walk-off Single Sends Rutgers Prep Past Montgomery
Sophomore Kate Dougherty reached base five times and delivered a game-winning RBI single during the bottom of the seventh inning to send Rutgers Prep to a 6-5 victory over Montgomery in Somerset.
Dougherty finished with three hits at the plate and tossed a complete game in the circle where she allowed five runs (three earned) on nine hits, two walks and two hit batters with five strikeouts.
Julia Opong-Marfo was 3-for-4 at the dish during the victory and had an RBI for the Argonauts. Victoria Scheflen added two hits and an RBI to the victory for Rutgers Prep (4-8).
Alyssa Malen hit an RBI single that scored Lauren Tortolani to tie the game for Montgomery (2-13) during the top of the seventh inning.
Tortolani finished the contest with three hits, an RBI and two runs scored for the Cougars. Nicolette Shackelford had two hits, an RBI and two runs scored as well for Montgomery.
