Rutgers Prep’s Addison Halpern is Girls Soccer Player of the Year, 2024
When the championship celebration died down and the trophy pictures wrapped up at Franklin after the Non-Public B final, Virginia commit Addison Halpern had one last thing to do.
The senior caught the eye of her father, Eric, and they both choked back tears until they couldn’t anymore. This was it. Their last game together. Halpern threw herself into her father’s arms and let all the emotions of the last four years pour out in one perfect moment. It was special.
Halpern finished out her career with three straight Non-Public B titles, a pair of Somerset County championships and 180 goals. Eric was there every step of the way. He made sure of it. In 2020, Eric stepped down as coach of an undefeated Middlesex boys program to become an assistant with the girls program at Rutgers Prep, joining his daughter for an unforgettable run.
He was there, watching in awe on the sidelines and witnessing his daughter etch her place in New Jersey history. Halpern was an elite scorer the moment she stepped on the field and got better each fall. The senior had one of greatest careers the state has ever seen and for the second year in a row, Halpern is the NJ.com Girls Soccer Player of the Year.
