Lower Schoolers Show Appreciation and Kindness on “El Día del Amor”
Valentine’s Day gives us a chance to celebrate the people we care about. Across our Lower School Spanish classes, students put their own twist on the day, calling it, "El Día del Amor y la Amistad"—a day to recognize both love and friendship.
Students showed their appreciation for the many people who keep Rutgers Prep running smoothly every day, especially those whose hard work sometimes goes unnoticed.
Together, the students made special valentines for the front desk team who greet them with smiles as they walk through the door each morning, the nurses who make sure they're healthy, and the security staff who keep them safe. They wrote cards for the dining staff who cook and serve our lunches in the Dining Commons, the facilities and maintenance teams who clean our classrooms, clear snow, care for our grounds, and set up for events. And, of course, they shared their thanks with their teachers, who guide and support them every day.
As they created their notes, the students learned new Spanish phrases like “Te apreciamos mucho” (“We really appreciate you”) and “Gracias por ayudarnos todos los días” (“Thank you for helping us every day”). They carefully decorated each card before delivering their messages of thanks around campus.
The smiles they received in return were proof that a little appreciation goes a long way.
