Addison Halpern ’25 Named to U.S. National Team for U-20 Women’s World Cup
Congratulations to Rutgers Prep girls soccer player Addison Halpern ’25 for being named to the U.S. National Team for the 2024 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup in Bogota, Colombia.
Addison is one of just two high school players on the team and is the youngest at 17 years old. She’s currently in Colombia training with Team USA until the squad opens up group play against the defending U-20 Women’s World Cup champions Spain on Sunday, September 1 at 4 p.m.
"Making the World Cup roster is a testament to years of dedication, sacrifice, and perseverance," said Addison’s father, Eric Halpern, assistant coach for the RPS girls’ soccer team. "Before leaving, she made a speech thanking her teammates for all their support, and she said she'll be keeping in touch with all of them." Addison also promised to follow along with how the Rutgers Prep team is doing until her return after the World Cup.
This tournament won’t be Addison’s first experience with the U.S. Youth National Team. Earlier this year, she was part of the U-19 women’s team that played two friendly matches against perennial powerhouse Spain, including a 3-3 draw in Alicante, Spain in June. In 2022, Addison also played with the U-16 team that won all of its games in the UEFA Development Tournament that took place in Ronneby, Sweden.
"Being named to this roster is a heck of an achievement," added RPS girls’ head coach Jim Buchanan. "We’re all behind Addy, and we’re extremely proud of her."
