Creative Writing Class Shares Their Original Stories with Kindergarteners

Before spring break, Upper School English teacher Theodora Angelos’ Creative Writing class read their original picture books to a captivated Kindergarten audience.

To prepare, the students explored examples of children’s literature, studied narrative structure and illustration styles, and revisited some of their own childhood favorites in the RPS library.

Each pair of seniors wrote and illustrated a story, working through multiple drafts and giving each other feedback along the way. Some drew by hand, others used iPads or watercolor.

They wrapped up the project by sharing their finished books with the Kindergarten class, who gave immediate, honest, and always warm feedback. The Kindergarten teachers print a copy of each book for their classroom library, where the stories are read and enjoyed all year long.
