Lower School Students Stay Engaged with After-School Clubs

We are fortunate in Lower School to have dedicated faculty members offering an array of clubs during the After School Program (ASP). Clubs are a chance for teachers to showcase their talents and interests, as well as an exciting diversion for our students. Different clubs are open to different grade levels, and our club offerings change depending on the time of the year.

The ever-popular Cooking Club is led by Lower School Administrative Assistant Ms. Keane and STEAM teacher Mrs. Miller. They’ve made dessert quesadillas and turkey-shaped rice krispy treats among other culinary delights.

The Knitting Club is led by Librarian Ms. Printon and Music Teacher Mrs. Schulz. Both beginner and experienced knitters are learning to cast on and do a knit stitch, with the goal of creating a knitted square by the end of the series.

The Newspaper Club is led by Upper School English Teacher Ms. Angelos and gives young reporters the chance to research topics of their own choice and get helpful guidance from Ms. Angelos and some Upper School students who help as well. We’re all looking forward to reading their published articles.

The Lacrosse Club meets on picturesque Elm Farm Lawn and provides an introduction to lacrosse led by Director of Community and Athletic Programs Ryan Klipstein. The kids are learning to throw, catch, and shoot with lacrosse sticks using fun games for points like “Jackpot.”

The Coloring Club led by Third Grade teacher Mrs. Klinger is a relaxing time to chill, listen to music, and express yourself creatively. Each child chooses one finished piece to take home in a frame.

The Crafting Club led by First Grade teacher Mrs. Corbin affords experiences in clay, paint, yarn, and other chances to use your imagination and hands creatively!

Math Olympiad, led by Fifth Grade teacher Mr. Lewis, gives students looking for math challenges and competitions an outlet for their ambitions. This is a dedicated group of mathematicians who will meet all year.

Anime Club, also led by Mr. Lewis, is for anime addicts and newbies who want to view anime clips and discuss themes and tropes and how they relate to storytelling.

Chess Club is offered by Diplomat Chess and is one of the few clubs that is offered to younger students. Starting in Kindergarten, students may sign up for Chess Club.

In addition to our rotating array of clubs, ASP offers Homework Hub for students in third, fourth and fifth grades to develop great homework habits. This program is led by Fifth Grade teachers Mrs. Vinchur and Mr. Lewis, Fourth Grade teachers Mrs. Withum and Miss Lupo, Third Grade teacher Mrs. Klinger, and STEAM teacher Mrs. Miller

We know the Lower School students are excited about our clubs—the photos below certainly make that much evident—and we are thrilled to be able to offer a wide variety of activities that keep them engaged after school!
