RPS Delegation Competes at National Model UN Conference

From February 12-15, Rutgers Prep’s Model UN delegation traveled to Washington, D.C. to compete in the North American Invitational Model United Nations (NAIMUN). The NAIMUN conference is the largest conference for high school Model UN and welcomes schools from all around the world.

At the conference, delegates had the pleasure of engaging in debates surrounding some of the world’s most poignant issues, ranging from decolonization to nuclearization. Through diplomacy and collaboration, delegates worked together to draft and present meaningful resolutions. All the while, students were able to enjoy many of D.C’s offerings, exploring everything from the Washington Monument to the Smithsonian Museums.

As a delegation, Rutgers Prep students were recognized with two awards. A verbal commendation was awarded to Maanit Khanna ’28 and Shayaan Sreejit ’28 for their performance in the United Nations’ Security Council. Representing the country of Singapore, the pair offered thought-provoking solutions to tackle the burgeoning threat of North Korea. In addition, an honorable mention was awarded to Jay Chavan ’26 for his work on the Supreme Court Committee. Embodying the judicial perspective of former Associate Justice Antonin Scalia, he debated the merits of three cases dealing with everything from 14th Amendment gender discrimination claims to campaign finance laws to AI copyright implications.

We are incredibly proud of everyone who participated in this conference; your work, dedication, and commitment to thoughtful, productive dialogue continue to strengthen and inspire our program.
