Rutgers Prep Community Hosts Hispanic Heritage Potluck
The scent of empanadas and the sound of salsa music filled the air as students, families, and faculty gathered in the Dining Commons at Rutgers Prep earlier this month for the Hispanic Heritage Potluck, una noche de comida, cultura, y comunidad.
Attendees enjoyed a wide variety of traditional dishes from across Latin America, including empanadas, arroz con pollo, yuca with onion, and sweet plantains. Among the options for dessert were delicious tres leches cupcakes and alfajores, two cookies with a layer of dulce de leche between them. Between bites, guests joined in lively salsa and bachata lessons led by dance teacher Johsian Martinez-Gonzalez, filling the room with energy and smiles.
Davi Soares ’25, student leader of the Latin American Student Alliance at RPS, reflected on the club's impact, sharing that it had given him a true sense of community and belonging. “I can proudly say that the people in L.A.S.A. have changed my life,” he said, expressing his gratitude for the faculty who support the club and the parents and students who help organize its events throughout the year.
This event not only celebrated Hispanic and Latino heritage but was also a reminder of the vibrant, diverse community that makes Rutgers Prep such a special place. A heartfelt thank you to Davi, the Latin American Student Alliance, the Hispanic Heritage Committee, and everyone who played a role—big or small—in bringing this evening to life.
