Rutgers Prep Students Place 2nd at NJ Physics Olympics

Rutgers Prep Students Place 2nd at NJ Physics Olympics

Rutgers Prep students placed in three events at the NJ Physics Olympics -- North/Central New Jersey competition, held at Monmouth Regional High School on Saturday, April 2, 2022.

Additionally, the Rutgers Prep team placed second in the overall competition, competing against more than 20 teams.

The team earned second place in two events: Spaghetti Marshmallow Tower and Longest Cantilever. In the Spaghetti Marshmallow Tower event, competitors must design and build the tallest tower that can support a load of 375 grams, using only uncooked spaghetti and mini-marshmallows. In the Longest Cantilever event, the aim was to design and build the longest cantilever segment using only spaghetti and glue.

The team’s first place finish, which ultimately pushed them onto the podium, was in the Spaghetti Wind Power Lifter event, in which they had to design and build a device that will lift a 375 gram load (about 150 pennies) through a vertical distance of approximately one meter in the minimum amount of time.

Congratulations to team members Abigail Callaghan '24, Ananya Ganesh '22, Katherine Guo '23, Arushi Gupta '23, Ren “Billy” Lian '23, Zihan “William” Liu '23, Qi “Maggie” Ren '23, Priyansh Shrivastava '23, Yicen “Sally” Tao '23, Yuxuan “Daniel” Tian '23, Yuhi “Luciana” Wei '23, Yue “Julia” Yu '22 and Yixi “Daisy” Zhang '24!
