7th Graders Use Forensic Science to Track Down Would-Be Criminals
There's a whodunit in the halls of our Middle School! Not to worry, because seventh graders in our Scientific Inquiry classes are on the case! In investigative teams consisting of a sketch artist, photographer, and an evidence collector, Ms. Vaccarino's students have been working collaboratively and using their critical thinking and problem-solving skills to track down who stole her Jolly Ranchers and Twizzlers and tore her picture of the Phillie Phanatic, the beloved Philadelphia Phillies mascot. During this project, her students will be learning and using real-life forensic science skills like chromatography and analyzing fingerprints, handwriting, hairs, and fibers. This week they documented the crime scenes with photographs and detailed drawings and collected evidence that might just help them catch the candy bandit and maimer of memorabilia. The game’s afoot! 🕵️
