Third Grade Learns about the Lenape on Trip to Sandy Hook
Mrs. Klinger’s third graders recently participated in “Lenape and the Jersey Shore,” a full-day, immersive outdoor program at the New Jersey Sea Grant Consortium at Sandy Hook.
On the trip, our students explored the historic coastal way of life of the Lenape through interactive activities such as making fire by rubbing sticks together, practicing their hunting skills playing a game called "Spear the Deer," and trying their hand at fishing with a seine net.
This day filled with hands-on experiences not only enhanced the students' understanding of Lenape traditions but also tied perfectly into the Third Grade’s annual in-depth study of New Jersey, which begins with lessons on the Lenni Lenape.
