World Language Students Celebrate La Journée Nationale du Fromage 🧀
It turns out that French class, like most things, is even better when cheese is involved.
Students in Zion Rogers’ French Conversation and Culture recently got an early start on celebrating la Journée Nationale du Fromage, or French National Cheese Day. They were joined by Jennifer Aquino’s Spanish 2 class for a lesson about French cheeses and the regions they come from. Then they sampled a wide variety of cheeses, including Brie, Gruyère, and Camembert, and discussed the flavors, textures, and their favorites in French. A few brave students also took part in a blind taste-test game called Fromage à l’aveugle, which was definitely a highlight of the lesson.
Despite some initial skepticism, most students ended up liking varieties they might not have otherwise tried, which is a win given the sometimes hard-to-please teenage palate.
French National Cheese Day is March 27, so consider this your reminder to mark your calendar and stock up on the Camembert.
